The best way to get ahold of Chinese tofus
A guide to shopping on Weee! - the online Chinese grocer.
Is your fridge packed with tofu? If not, let’s fix that.
Weee! is the Amazon Fresh for Asian and Latin cuisines, offering an unparalleled selection of tofus, delivered direct to your door. While their perishable options aren’t available everywhere, they do service most large and medium-sized cities, from Atlanta to Rochester to Columbus.
Let’s check if they service your neighborhood.
(NOTE: if you’d like to support my work, consider signing up to Weee using my affiliate link in this post. Thanks for your interest in tofu!)
Step 1: visit www.sayweee.com and enter your zip code
After you input your zip code, Weee! will tell you if they offer perishables (“fresh groceries”) or just non-perishables (“pantry staples”).
Step 2: set your desired cuisine to Chinese
Category options should immediately appear.
Step 3: search or browse
There’s quite a lot of great stuff on Weee! Here are a few items to check out:
Spongy tofu 千页豆腐 qianye doufu — labeled “Dean Fa chiba tofu, frozen”
Fresh tofu sticks 鲜腐竹 xian fuzhu — labeled “Havista soy sticks, frozen”
Shanghai tofu 上海素鸡 shanghai suji — labeled “Duo Duo Foods Inc tofu cake, frozen”
Tofu sheets 干豆腐 gandoufu — labeled “Havista soy tofu sheets”
Lava tofu 包浆豆腐 baojiang doufu — labeled “soft tofu cake”
NOTE: You can see that Weee! doesn’t standardize English product names. If you search but nothing pops up, try the other names from our buying guide. Or better yet, copy and paste the Chinese names.
Unfortunately, Weee! also offers some really low quality options…
As of 8/8/23, I wouldn’t recommend that you buy pressed tofu from Weee! The main offerings are from the brand Nature’s Soy. I feel bad for saying this, but after trying several of their products from various supermarkets, in various states, I’ve found that they all taste chemically. This is somewhat perplexing. Their other main brand, AFC, is just mediocre. If you have the ability, I would try to visit a Chinese supermarket and look for these options instead.
Weee! offers a lava tofu 包浆豆腐 baojiang doufu by “Fresh Way” that doesn’t actually melt. See the image above.
If you’d prefer to browse, Weee! has a whole category devoted to Tofu & Vegan options. In fact, if you hover over that icon, several subcategories will pop up. “Tofu” and “Bean Curd” offer the standard tofu varieties, but “Frozen Plant-Based” has a bit more. You can find Shanghai tofu, spongy tofu, several types of yuba, tofu sheets, leaved seitan, and more.
So what are you waiting for?! Let’s get you set up today :)
